Slow IWD1


Slow is an IWD arcane spell in Black Isle's cRPG of 1999, Icewind Dale 1. Slow is notable for being a powerful debuffer of enemy mobs.

Haste IWD is great, right? Haste doubles our party's ApR. But Haste inflicts fatigue when it wears off and Slow potentially affects more than six units. And it not only halves enemy ApR and movement rate but also inflicts a four-point penalty to their THAC0, AC and saves vs. Spell. Ideally, we cast Haste on ourselves and Slow on the enemy in order to gain a huge advantage.

  • Slow (Alteration)
  • Level 3 Arcane Spells IWD
  • Range: Sight of Caster
  • Duration: 3 rounds + 1 round/level
  • Casting Time: 3
  • Area of Effect: 20-foot radius
  • Saving Throw: Neg.
  • Slow causes creatures to move and attack at 1/2 of their normal rates. It negates Haste, but does not otherwise affect magically speeded or slowed creatures. Slowed creatures gain +4 penalty to AC, and suffer a -4 to attack. To make matters worse, creatures save at -4 vs. this spell.
