River Civilization 1

River Civ1

River is one of 12 Civilization 1 Terrain Types in MicroProse's TBS Game of 1991, Civilization 1. Strong civilizations often stem from cities built on river systems: The Cradle of Civilization aka Tigris, Euphrates and Nile. Along with their facilitation of movement, river squares are notable for their food and trade production bonuses.

  • Food: 2 (3* with Irrigation) units
  • Production: 0/1 units
  • Trade: 1%
  • Movement Cost: 1 MP
  • Defense Bonus: +50%

* -1 if government is Despotism or an Anarchy
% +1 if government is a Republic or a Democracy

When you have a strong River-based catchment, you want to get Colossus and Bridge Building ASAP in order to boost trade significantly. You can also get Democracy early via Pyramids.
